Product Review – Transaction Pro Importer 5.0 for QuickBooks

Last week a client had an urgent need to import a batch of bills into QuickBooks from data that resided in Excel.  We helped them to successfully complete the import using Transaction Pro Importer 5.0 from Baystate Consulting. This product takes Excel data with transactions organized in rows and imports the data into QuickBooks. It eliminates the need to learn how to configure QuickBooks import files (known as “iif” files).

Below is a quick review of our experience with the product.

Pros:
1) The product worked.
2) They offer a functioning demo version so you can test the product. The only constraint we noticed was that they set a random date on the transactions. We were able to test importing several bills so we comfortable with the product before we bought it.
3) The product was easy to buy and install.
4) The product was fairly easy to use.  Once we understood how to use the wizard and configure the Excel data, it was a snap to import the data. Here is a sample screen from the beginning of the wizard:

Con:
1) The instructions could be better–it could use a QuickGuide or something similar. We’re comfortable with QuickBooks data and with import processes, so we were able to figure out how to use the product. Less experienced users might not find the instructions to be sufficient.

In summary, we had a good experience with this product and can recommend it to others.
